GALENA with CALCITE Pend Oreille Mine, near Metalline Falls, Pend Oreille County, Washington, USA Specimen is about 16 cm longest dimension Ex-Jim Browne Collection The first photo shows the front side of specimen, with the galena exhibiting a unique morphology and surface texture. This has been interpreted to have resulted during deposition of the galena by growth interference with the associated calcite. The second photo is a closeup (field of view 2 cm) of a galena face with a herringbone pattern interpreted to have been caused by growth interference with calcite. The final photo shows the back side of the specimen, where galena was injected along cleavage partings within the massive white calcite. Photo Copyright © 2013 Jeffrey M. Schwartz
